1960 - Ebbw Vale

Ebbw Vale 1960
Oil on Canvas
115 x 153 cm
This is a fairly faithful record of a famous Welsh valley. Local people can point out buildings and remember how the smoke followed the lines of the valleys. Lowry is best known for his paintings of industrial scenes featuring his famous 'matchstick' figures.
Lowry chose to paint in a simple style which suggested that he had no formal training. In fact he had studied at art colleges in Manchester and Salford.
