Presumably this was drawn on Lowry's last visit to Ireland with Pat and Brian Cooke in 1970. Ireland and the Irish people were very dear to Lowry, and he visited Ireland on several occasions in the 1960's. Ireland does not feature frequently in his work. It is, perhaps, typical of Lowry that given the scenery, villages and coastline of Co. Dublin, he has chosen to sketch a public convenience.
